Parody

Parody

An imitation.

The exemplary career of Weird Al steadies my theory that we will never run out of new music. His humorous renditions of popular songs are dutifully loyal to their roots, carefully grafting new messaging onto the existing meter and rhyme schemes of the original. Considering all the pieces that come together to make a song, this shift is relatively minimal, and yet the yield is unmistakably new. Even if we stopped writing new melodies and rhyming patterns, there exists an abyss of creativity waiting to be woven into the fabric of our existing corpus.

Parity

A state of equality.

Newly promoted side Fulham have spent 70 million Euros on transfers this offseason—more than United, Chelsea, and Tottenham, and surely more than any promoted side in another league can dream of spending. Watching small fish in the Prem hawk talent from the likes of Monaco, Dortmund, and Barcelona is a testament to the commercial success of England’s top flight, and worrisome sign for the competition in world football. And unfortunately for these other leagues, this success means more competition in the Prem, which can only promise more views and more growth.
