A natural relationship.

NPR’s Tiny Desk is a triumph because it allows us to see ourselves in our favorite artists. Stripping away the walls of the recording studio, the artist must bear their humanity, not just with their new acoustic treatments of what they perform, but in the way their sounds openly and physically affect them. Just watch Anderson .Paak’s face during his recent Tiny Desk appearance. We are the unconscious head nods, the sideways smiles emerging mid-solo—for three glorious songs, the artist shows us that they connect with their music just like we do.

Of the same ilk.

In every press conference the French national team has held since May, one reporter or another has asked the same question, “Are there any players that blow you away in training?” Instead of looking for specific names (although the reporter certainly has players in mind), this question implores the athlete on the stand to reveal his likeness to us by expressing our favorite lay-person’s emotion—awe.
